There are lots of different reasons why people wish to change Careers during their lives. I aim to look at some of those reasons, and just point out some of the considerations people should make when changing Careers, especially for people who are aiming to move into a New career altogether, something which is dissimilar to anything that they have ever done before. First of all we will view different reasons why people may feel the need to change Careers.
One of the reasons may just be that you fancy a New career. Maybe you are a bit bored of the work that you presently do, and would like something a bit different. Maybe you have been thinking about other New careers you might potentially venture into, and they all seem more attractive than your current job. This is a perfectly valid reason for wanting to move Careers, especially if you are at a point where you are starting to hate going to work every day. However, if this is the main reason you have been thinking about New careers, then you need to consider what exactly it is you do not like any more in your existing job, to ensure that you do not wind up doing a similar thing if you do change Careers, and end up hating your new career just as much. If you like your existing role but have just seen something which looks more attractive, then make sure your new role has the potential to support you financially if you decide to move, and also try to plan ahead, and see if it is something you can still see yourself doing in 5 or even 10 years time.
Another reason for wanting to move Careers might be in the form of additional responsibilities, either form a new arrival to your family such as a new baby, or maybe someone who needs more care. These things can need a career change to something less taxing, and less time-consuming, so you are available at home more often in order to be able to look after your family. The main things to bear in mind here are of course if you are working fewer hours, or a less challenging job, chances are your pay is going to suffer also, so make sure you budget appropriately. This way you will be ready to possibly have to take a cut in your earnings.
There are lots of reasons why people may wish to change Careers at some point in their lives – here we have barely scraped the surface of what a person may need to think about. However, my key point is to get people to ensure they thoroughly think through any problems that may occur as a result of them changing Careers, and making sure they are ready to deal with them, and make sure that it is something they can manage. Starting a New career can be rather a daunting scary thing, so the last thing you need when starting one is to have to be concered about things you did not think about prior to changing Careers, as this can in itself cause unnecessary stress which can affect your career change negatively.
