Stuck with Career Choices? Confused on what path you wish to follow? Well here we are going to look at something fresh and exciting when it comes to Careers. A lot of people are struggling with employment, especially with todays recession and so this article is written with these people in mind, people who are looking for unique ideas or simply just a little inspiration. The role we will be looking at is “Search Engine Optimisation” because as far as Career Choices go, this one is still fairly new and is often overlooked. When you initially read it, it looks kind of scary, it sounds like something you probably need a lot of training for, perhaps even a university degree. But the truth is, Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO, has many different layers and can be adjusted to a persons needs. Like a lot of New Careers, there is some training involved, but only a small amount in order to prepare you for the role ahead.
The main purpose behind SEO is to take on clients and assist them in putting their website onto page one of a search engine like Google or Bing. Again you may have the impression that this is as technical as Careers can get, so we’ll now look at what’s involved in the work behind SEO. As mentioned before, there are different levels of technicality based on how skilled you are and how far you want to take it. First you will need to gain a client to work with and then you will need to examine their website and find ways in which to make it more applicable to the subject and how to include special “Keywords” which are used to relate to a customers search query. This work can be performed in a number of ways, for those who are technical and capable enough, they can take the website hands on and actually make the changes themselves. For those who do not have that sort of background, this part of the job can be as simple as just pointing out where to improve the site and agreeing with the client on desired modifications, after all, most clients will have a web developer who looks after the website and it can simply fall to him/her to make the changes.
After the initial website optimisation is complete, the next part involves looking “behind” the website at the actual coding. Now this is where your Careers training takes effect, because this part of the job needs to be looked at as it is essential to reaching page one. For this section of the job you will be required to spot changes that could be made within the code for the website, but again, depending on your level of experience this can literally be as simple as just pointing to what needs to be adjusted. The changes being made here are simple “tags” that can be added, again incorporating those “keywords”. It can involve tagging pictures or creating useful anchor text. Finally, once this is complete, the website is optimised and now all that is left is to promote it. This is the biggest part of the job and can be tackled in many ways. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the website gains reputation and is ideally linked to from some reputable sources.
That more or less sums up SEO, just one of hundreds of New Careers that can include the flexibility of self employment and be tailored to your own abilities.
