For licensed professionals, who every renewal period seek after MFT continuing education, there is a new option for licensure. The CA BBS (Board of Behavioral Sciences) has implemented a new license, the LPCC (licensed professional clinical counselor). This new license can be obtained not only from existing licensed professionals in California, but from those licensed in other states as well. The CA BBS has created a temporary path for those seeking this new license. This path is called the “grandparenting” path. For the licensed professional from outside of California, their requirements will not be the same as those already licensed in California. There will be additional coursework required for those licensed outside of California.
Aspira Continuing Education now offers all of these additional courses needed to meet the requirements for non-BBS applicants seeking the CA LPCC license through the grandparenting path. The licensed professional also needs to be sure that their masters or doctorate program covered the core content areas required by the CA BBS. All of the extra courses can be taken from an online provider approved by the CA BBS. The courses and their corresponding number of required hours are as follows:
* 15 contact hours of training in alcoholism and other chemical substance abuse dependency;
* 10 contact hours of training in human sexuality;
* 15 contact hours of training in spousal or partner abuse assessment, detection, and intervention;
* 7 contact hours of training in child abuse assessment and reporting;
* 18 contact hours of training in California law and professional ethics;
* 10 contact hours of training in aging and long-term care; and,
* 15 contact hours of instruction in crisis or trauma counseling.
Aspira Continuing Education has added a few more courses to their course list in the last month. Aspira Continuing Education now offers each of the required courses listed above. “Now, those seeking licensure with the CA BBS as an LPCC can meet all of their extra coursework in one place”, said Nicole Hiltibran, MA, LMFT, CEO of Aspira Continuing Education. “This really simplifies the process during this window of opportunity of the grandparenting path provided by the CA BBS.”
In addition to these specific courses for the LPCC license, Aspira Continuing Education offers several other courses that are beneficial to those needing to renew their current license, whether it is in social work, marriage and family therapy or counseling. Aspira appears to be the “one-stop-shop” for online continuing education for mental health professionals and licensed social workers in most states, not just California.
