Emails, Blogging, Instant messaging, Social networks, all are fast and straightforward processes for keeping in contact with others via the pc. Then there are cell phones which allow folk to send messages to one another, some of the high-spec ones also permit emails, instant messaging, blogging, social networking, just like a computer.

Travel on any type of public transport and you will see folk sending texts through their mobile phones, reading texts they are receiving, but only rarely are they actually speaking. It would look as if they are much happier to converse via text than the spoken word.

This is no shock really, as the Internet Business is taking off and more Online Jobs become available, folk are used to chatting via email to colleagues, clients, suppliers, employees, etc, so the fact that this rolls over into their personal habits is just one small development of their normal practice.

For those who Work From Home, instant messaging may be the way they keep in contact with remote co-workers, so again it is no shock that they also use this method in their personal lives. One thing I find sad, though, is when you view a social networking site and see partners chatting to each other over the social network, such routine things as “when will tea be ready”, which show that both parties are in the same place, probably the same room, but prefer to talk through their computer than face to face.

A lot of job adverts you see request a good communicator and I think that over time this is going to be a lot more difficult to find, as face to face discussions becomes a thing of the past. My own kids are happy to text their chums, 24 hours a day, but are not comfortable calling them and chatting verbally. Could it be that with all this Internet Business, they have found new ways of conversing which do not require speech?

I think this would be a real shame and we would lose much if we stopped having verbal conversations. Such a lot is passed on in the manner in which we talk which cannot be copied in writing. How often does it happen that you are speaking to someone over the phone, and they will ask if you are ok because they can hear in your voice that you are angry or in pain? This would not happen in text.

Written words can be misconstrued in a way which is much less likely to happen in verbal conversations. A totally innocent message from one person could be taken apart by the receiver and, depending upon their own mood at the time, be taken as offensive. Had they spoken with each other face to face, this misconception would never have happened, the purpose of the message would be clearly delivered and received.

Obviously with the rise in Online Jobs and as more folk Work From Home, there is a requirement for written correspondence, but let us try to keep alive the art of verbal conversation. It is a real art and it would be such a pity to lose it.

The Oilers would make a tradition of bringing the trophy to Edmonton, as the very next year they made quick work of the Kings, Jets and Blackhawks to come across the Phildelphia Flyers in the finals. Once again, the matchup was uneven as the Oilers beat up on Philly with a 8-3 score in the fifth game, to win their second straight Stanley Cup.

The 1988 off-season would see a crazy turn of events. Faced with grim financial problems, the Oilers traded their franchise player Wayne Gretzky to the Los Angeles Kings for a package of players and cash. The franchise finished third in their division and ironically lost to Gretzky and the Kings in the first round of the playoffs.

From 1998 to 2001, the Oilers would lose four straight times to the Dallas Stars in the postseason, creating yet another playoff rivalry. After missing the playoffs in 2001, the Oilers found themselves in an all too common circumstance in the 2002 Stanley Cup playoffs, going up against the Stars in the Conference quarter-finals, and being beaten in a hard fought six game series.

All species progress over time, with weaker genes fading out and those which enhance the species becoming more established. However, as lifestyles alter, so do the genes which are identified as the preferred genes. When humans hunted for food, they had to be strong and fast. The man who was weak would not continue to exist and females would be looking for good providers for them and their children.

Time moved on and it was not necessary for humans to hunt for food, women now looked for men who were good providers, in a monetary way. Males wanted women to be good housewives and parents. We, generally speaking, wanted partners who were attractive and had good personal hygiene habits.

Now, with the increase in Internet Business, more individuals Work From Home and it may not now be the case that the individuals who were considered to be a bit geeky are still regarded in this light. People with Online Jobs, who are able to make a decent wage in this new and growing industry may be those whose genes we would wish to have in the future.

Sometimes individuals will try and force evolution in a certain direction – think Adolf Hitler and his requirement for a superior race, how he was willing to kill anybody who he considered inferior, mainly based on colour and religion – however, the greatest changes are those which occur naturally. It would definitely be interesting to understand how this will change the pattern of human lives over the next few thousand years. Maybe it will just be a very small blip which will not make any significant difference, but then again it could be the dawn of a whole new era.
