Cookies once were a treat we were given with milk at suppertime when we were little children. Now they are an important factor to the Internet Business success. As we visit internet sites, cookies are downloaded to our laptops to make it more effortless for us to find those web pages in the future.
Often we are totally oblivious that this is going on. We Work From Home on our pc, maybe studying, maybe purchasing, maybe just searching general interest internet sites. All the time we are leaving a trail. When we use our browser there is a tab to see our history. There we can go back some considerable time to see internet sites we have visited in the past. We try to enter a web address in the browser and are given a list of internet sites we have looked at before as choices for where we may want to go today.
With some browsers, when we open up one site, for example a car dealer site, a similar Internet Business will see we are visiting a competitor and try to steal their customer, so there are many pop up screens showing up on the pc. Other browsers encourage you to stop these internet sites which you have not opened, from accessing your pc, but again it shows how our internet activity is being closely monitored.
If we use a search engine, typing a search query may give results with certain internet sites shown in a different colour to the majority – this is because we have visited that site previously and the search engine is telling us this. The folk who work in the Internet Business must have some of the Best Paid Careers as they work in such high-technology businesses.
The internet browser I use also knows when I have entered a password on a site and asks me whether I want my pc to remember that password so that I do not have to enter it every time I go to the site. So, not only does the pc know where I like to visit, it also knows what passwords I use.
Because many of us Work From Home, sorting out our on line banking bills, shopping, looking for those Best Paid Careers we would all wish to have, we are leaving a lot of information on one small pc, which in some respects is reassuring, it is our pc and it knows what we like to do. However, the downside to this is that all our most private information is kept in one place.
It may be worthwhile, therefore, to make sure that we do not leave our internet history to grow and grow, but possibly keep just one week or one month’s worth of previous activity. Possibly we could remove some of the cookies which have built up without our knowledge. Some are very useful, but many are more for the good of the internet sites we are visiting than our own.
By doing this, we are making it more difficult for others to trace our behaviour and freeing up space on our pc which will allow it to run quicker but the downside is that we may have to give more information to internet siteswe visit often if we have got rid of their cookies.
