An RN Career Does Not Need To Be Limited To Only Working With Patients

Career advancement options for registered nurses vary like in most careers. For some nurses who have been working in the field for awhile may feel they need to advance to management. However unless they have a B.S.N. degree this option may be limited. In today’s world however earning a higher degree may be possible for many even while working.

Several universities offer bachelors degree for working RNs who have not yet earned a degree. So now those nurses who plan to advance have more opportunities available to continue their education. Even if the nurse works full time it is possible to still earn a degree.

In today’s world many people who think about a nursing career may think a nurse is limited to working in a hospital setting and only working with patients. However for many nurses the options available for career advancement may be many. If they want to be a nurse but prefer not to work with patients it is possible. Whatever the case may be the option for career advancement it is a real possibility.

In today’s competitive career environment many people decide to return to college to get an advanced degree. From an RN perspective where one may only hold a nursing diploma or an associates degree they may only need to earn a bachelors. In addition if the nurse chooses to go beyond a BS degree it may be possible. As a result it appears many nurses are also choosing to go for the MSN degree.

Going into nursing management is not the only career advancement option as some nurses are finding out. While many traditional nurses continue working with patients at some level other nursing professionals may decide to take their career in a total different direction.

One such career option is to become a legal nurse which may require additional training. Getting into the legal side could mean that person will no longer work with patients unless they choose. Legal nursing as a career choice does appear to be of interest to many experienced nurses. Not all obviously choose to go this route as many enjoy working with and helping patients. But there is a need for legal nurses as well. Typically an rn who has in interest such as this may first need to have a certain amount of experience working as an RN.

In additional to traditional nursing and legal nursing another career path some may later decide to venture into is that of a case manager. That is many decide they want to help people by being a case manager.

There are a lot of different paths to expand ones career. That is nurses have many paths to consider. Options and flexibility for current and future nurses is great news. This may also help steer those into the field who are still considering all options. For many people having the additional options later in ones career can help them to decide to initially enter that field.

Is technical know-how lowering flexible working lower down the ladder?

The early 1990’s saw the explosion, at least theoretically and academically, in the flexible working proposition. The concept being that due to the advances in technology everyone could Work From Home. Over the last 10 or 15 years the technology and the commercial reality of Internet Business has improved to the extent it is now, not only feasible to Work From Home but in some roles almost compulsory classified their business persona’s as nomadic (typically sales) or semi-nomadic (usually management, sales and team leader jobs). These job descriptions found it feasible to exist between the capability to Work From Home and flexible facilities in the office or offices in which they still had a base. Further up the management chain senior managers and executives found the capability to be efficient anywhere, specially in the case of those handling National and International teams and time changes.

The mid 1990’s on the other hand, saw another type of flexible worker beginning to immerge. The surge in Internet Business fashioned a different group. These workers are not part of a corporate machine running their jobs within the structure of touchdown and virtual meetings but rather what would have been a small business outlet on the main street. They are small service providers and sellers now profitable because they can work from home without the high fixed cost of property.

On the back of this second wave comes another class, those occupied in online jobs. These employees and entrepreneurs in reality make their living by providing services to support the growing virtual market place. In doing so their contact with clients is mostly via the electronic work media. This new business model redefines the idea of flexible working as not only can these businesses be run by people who work from home they can also be staffed by employees with the same working patterns.

If you are hunting for a job or a new career at the moment you may be a little overwhelmed at the amount of information, listings and employment websites that purport to help you in your search. Before making use any of the above help it is best to do some independent work on what you as an individual want to do for a job. Where do you want to work in terms of location? Close to home, in the city, or town next to you, anywhere around the country? Inside r outside? Would you like to Work From Home or do you feel that you have to work with colleagues instead of the isolation of having a career where you work from home? Think about transport networks, what kind of public transport is accessible and how long will you be happy to commute for every day.

Thinking now about the type of job you would like, think about whether you would like to work for a charity, none profit company, a small local company or a much larger company. Do you have any interest in working for yourself, possibly in connection with an Internet Business, or as part of a franchise?

Taking a temporary job may be a good idea in the current economic environment

If you are currently looking for a new role now might be the best time to consider a temporary position. Historically temporary roles have been seen as second rate to permanent ones and typically thought of as the more menial offer, may be along the lines of some of the Work From Home opportunities. Even before the beginning of the recession temporary jobs had begun to shake off their negative image. Over the last year, due to the recession many organizations across the board have had to make employees redundant. But now it would apprear that the economy, and therefore the job market, is moving in a positive direction meaning that those companies need to prepare themselves for an increase in turnover. Still a little worried about the recovery the businesses will probably choose to take on temporary or contract staff initially, but with such a extensive occurrence in redundancies these temporary roles will be on offer many different industries including manufacturing, finance and Internet Business. Provided that the economy continues to pick up these jobs are very likely to morph into permanent ones and additional recruitment will follow them.

From the point of view of an individual, these jobs represent a great way to analyze a new career or role. Experience the whole of the job role before deciding if the career is for you and if not, you can move on without any negative impact on your CV.
